Privacy Policy
Prayer is personal, so we handle what you share here with care. This page explains what Someone Prayed collects, who can see it, which services help us run the app, and how long we keep things. We wrote it to be read.
In short
- You record prayer requests and prayers in your own voice. The people who hear your request see your first name, and nothing else that identifies you.
- Before a recording reaches anyone, an automatic safety check turns it into text, and an AI reads that text. If something is flagged, it is held until a person on our team has listened.
- We do not sell your information, show ads, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
Who we are
Someone Prayed (“we”, “us”) provides the Someone Prayed app and this website. You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@someoneprayedapp.com.
What we collect
Prayers often touch on health, family, faith and other private things. We collect only what the app needs to work.
Account and profile
- Your email address, or the private relay address Apple gives us if you use Sign in with Apple. We never show it to other members.
- Your sign-in details. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are stored in a scrambled form that we cannot read.
- Your first name, your language and your time zone.
- An anonymous in-app ID.
- Preferences you choose, such as the kinds of requests you are willing to pray for and, if you choose to give it, your gender and whether you would like to be matched with people of the same gender.
- A record that you confirmed you are 18 or older. The app also asks you to affirm the Christian faith it is built for before you continue.
Your recordings and words
- Prayer requests you record, and the category you choose for them.
- Prayers you record for other members.
- Testimonies you record about answered prayer.
- Feedback you send us, written or recorded.
Subscription
Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive your subscription status and plan through our subscription service, RevenueCat. We never see your card number.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device and your notification settings, so that we can send you reminders and tell you when a prayer is ready.
How the app is used
We record basic events, such as which onboarding steps were completed, so we can see where people get stuck. Before you sign up, these events are tied only to a random number the app makes up on your device. After you sign up, that number is linked to your account.
What we do not do
We do not show ads. We do not sell your information. We do not use your recordings to build advertising profiles or to train AI models.
Who hears your recordings
- Your prayer request is played to the members assigned, or who choose, to pray for it. They see your first name so they can pray for you by name. They do not see your email address.
- A prayer someone records for you is played to you.
- A testimony is reviewed by a person on our team first. If it is approved, it is delivered to the members who prayed for that request, with your first name on it.
- Recordings are stored privately and are reachable only through short-lived links. We never post them publicly. If you choose to share a prayer outside the app, that copy is outside our control.
The automatic safety check
Someone Prayed is for praying and being prayed for, and nothing else. We do not ask members to rate or report each other’s prayers. Instead, every recording goes through an automatic safety check before another member hears it. A recording can be delayed by up to about half an hour while this happens.
- Transcription. A transcription service, AssemblyAI, turns your recording into text. It fetches the audio from a temporary link that expires after 10 minutes. The address of that link includes an internal reference to your account. We do not send your name or email address with it. We ask AssemblyAI to delete its copy as soon as we have the text, and we have set its account to delete anything it still holds after one day. We have also opted out of AssemblyAI using our recordings to improve its own models.
- The AI check. That text, and only that text, never the audio, is shown to an AI model, Claude from Anthropic, together with a fixed set of written rules. It looks for safety and privacy concerns: phone numbers, last names, requests for money, and someone who may be in crisis. It is not deciding whether a prayer is good enough. We attach no name, email address or account ID to this request, and under Anthropic’s commercial terms the text is not used to train its models.
- Spoken names. Anything you say out loud, including a name, is part of the recording, so it goes to these two services as part of the check.
- A person decides. If a recording is flagged, it is held until a person on our team has listened to it. Nothing flagged reaches other members before that. The check is automatic and can make mistakes in either direction, which is one reason a person makes the final call on anything it flags.
- What we keep. The text and the result of the check are kept only as long as the recording they belong to. Anything held for review is deleted after 30 days, along with its text and the reasons it was held.
The check is not an emergency service, and no one is watching in real time. If you or someone you know is in danger, call 911, or call or text 988 in the United States.
Services that help us run the app
These companies process information for us, only to provide their service:
- Supabase hosts our database, recordings, sign-in and server code.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, purchases and subscriptions, and delivers push notifications.
- RevenueCat manages subscriptions and tells us whether yours is active.
- Expo sends push notifications and delivers updates to the app.
- AssemblyAI and Anthropic carry out the safety check described above.
- Resend sends email alerts to our team.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or when we believe it is necessary to protect someone from serious harm.
How long we keep things
- A prayer someone records for you, and its text, is deleted about 24 to 48 hours after you listen to it.
- Your own prayer request recording stays with your account until you replace it or delete your account.
- A testimony stays until you delete your account, and then its audio is deleted.
- Anything held for review is deleted after 30 days.
- Your account details stay until you delete your account.
- Backups. Our database provider keeps routine backups for a short time, so deleted information can remain in a backup for a short period before it rolls off.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app. When you do, we:
- replace your first name with a placeholder and change your email address so that no one can sign in with it, including through Sign in with Apple;
- remove your push notification settings and language;
- take your active prayer request out of circulation straight away;
- permanently delete every recording you made: your requests, the prayers you recorded for others, your testimonies and your feedback recordings, along with their text and checks. The one exception is a recording that is being held for review, which is kept until the review ends and for no more than 30 days.
Some things stay. The bare fact that a prayer was given or received remains on record, attached to your anonymized account and not to your name or email. Recordings that other people made for you belong to them, and deleting your account does not delete them. Deleting your account cannot be undone.
Your choices and rights
You can change your preferences, and turn notifications on or off, in the app. You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it by writing to privacy@someoneprayedapp.com. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you.
If you live in a US state with a privacy law, such as California, you may have the right to know what we collect, to get a copy, to correct it, and to have it deleted. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising, and we will not treat you differently for using these rights. Where your local law gives you other rights, you can use them the same way.
Children
Someone Prayed is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will delete it. If you believe that has happened, please tell us at privacy@someoneprayedapp.com.
Security
Recordings are kept in private storage and are played only through links that expire. Information travels over encrypted connections, and access rules in our database limit each member to their own information. No system is perfectly secure. If you think your account has been compromised, email us right away.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
